One platform, dozens of screen shapes
OnSign is a digital signage platform used to display dynamic content such as weather, news, exchange rates, social feeds, and menu boards.
The challenge was that the same app could run on screens with completely different proportions. A layout designed for a standard landscape display could also need to work on a portrait screen, a long horizontal bar, or a square display.
This meant responsiveness could not be treated as a final adjustment. Each interface needed to be designed around the available space from the beginning.
Design for the constraint, not against it
I designed each app across four core screen orientations, defining how content would reflow depending on the available space.
Rather than creating one layout and stretching it across different displays, I treated each orientation as part of the design system.

Landscape
The standard wide format, providing the most horizontal space for content and supporting multiple elements side by side.
- 02
Portrait
Tall displays required the same information to be reorganized vertically, with stronger attention to hierarchy and content density.

Long Bar
Extremely wide and short displays allowed very little vertical space, so layouts had to focus on the most essential information.

Square
With neither width nor height providing a clear advantage, square screens required a more balanced approach to spacing and hierarchy.
More than 40 apps, designed to adapt rather than break
I designed more than 40 interfaces covering different types of dynamic content, each with responsive layouts for the four screen orientations.
The goal was not simply to make every app technically fit. Each version needed to remain readable, balanced, and understandable regardless of the screen it was displayed on.
Social Wall
A social feed designed to transition between posts while maintaining a clear hierarchy across different screen proportions.
News RSS
An RSS driven news interface that reorganizes headlines and supporting information depending on the available space.
A social feed adapted for large landscape displays, keeping posts readable while making efficient use of the available width.
Exchange Rate
A live currency interface designed across landscape, portrait, square, and long bar formats.
Countdown
A full screen countdown designed to make a single piece of information immediately visible from a distance.
Every app, fully responsive
I delivered more than 40 responsive signage applications, each designed to reflow across landscape, portrait, long bar, and square displays.
The resulting interfaces gave the OnSign platform a consistent approach to responsive signage, allowing different types of content to adapt to the physical constraints of the screen without requiring a separate design approach for every display.
